Ebonized Oak Desk
Red oak desk — ebonized top, natural base.
A mid-century–inspired desk in red oak. The top was an experiment in ebonizing with steel wool and vinegar — grain still reads through the black. One of my first large builds: not enough tools for what was in my head, plenty of compromise, a wood I don’t particularly love. It’s still my main work desk.
Build details
A mid-century–inspired red oak desk with an ebonized top, built in the Green Man Customs shop.
Ebonized top
Steel wool and vinegar. The grain still reads through the black.
Natural base
Splayed mid-century legs and apron left natural.
First large build
Not enough tools for the idea. Plenty of compromise. Still the desk I work at.
